First leg: ferry to Seattle
Carrying everything on my back.
And I'm off!
King Street Station in Seattle
Beautiful old classic train station.
Big beautiful seat, lots of room, both a built in ottoman and a footrest
Excited to go
There's the Kingston/Edmonds ferry
Low tide as the train goes along the waterfront.
Racing the cruise ships
Edmonds ferry terminal
Along Edmonds waterfront
That's Whidbey Island and the ferry coming from Clinton (Columbia Beach!)
Far ferry at terminal on Whidbey (Clinton), close ferry on it's way to Mukilteo
Everett Naval station
Turned East towards the pass
The light was beautiful
Very cool going through the pass (under in an 8 mile tunnel)
Quaint little station in Leavenworth
Gorgeous sunset outside of Wenatchee
Orchards outside Wenatchee. My seat mate was a young man returning to his family's farm to help out for the weekend.
Bridge over the Wenatchee river
Glorious twilight as we head for Spokane
After catching a few hours of sleep (too excited watching the sky and terrain outside the window), I woke early and secured essentials.
In Spokane in the middle of the night we connected with the train from Portland- - this brought the "lounge/viewing" car.
Montana sunrise at Whitefish lake
We're in Montana!
Beautiful Montana lanscape
Arrived in West Glacier, MT. Here is the portal to Going to the Sun Road. took a 2.3 mile hike to get to Apgar Visitor's center, where I'll catch by Red Bus for a tour to the summit.
About 1 mile from the train station in West Glacier I actually entered the park.
Lake McDonald in Glacier National Park
My favorite of Lake McDonald
Historic Lake McDonald Lodge
River has gone down (inside the park)
River confluence to Lake McDonald
Going to the Sun road to Logan Pass
Yeah, that red line is where our tour bus will drive -- eek!
